Getting started

Required software:

The Balmorel model is written in the GAMS modelling language. In order to run it, you must have the GAMS system. GAMS is commercial software. If you don't have access to GAMS it can be ordered from the GAMS Development Corporation.

Further you will need a solver for linear programming (LP), and this solver must be linked to GAMS. There are commercial as well as free solvers, see further GAMS' home page.

In order to install the downloaded file you will also need a program to uncompress the zip-file. This could be WinZip if you are using a MS Windows platform, or gunzip if you are using a UNIX platform.

In order to use the included spreadsheet files for semiautomatic generation of inc-files and graphs, you will need MS Excel to run this. Note however, that you may enjoy the full functionality of the model without this.

Installing the model:

Download the model from this site by either clicking on one of the download links or "right-clicking" at one of them and selecting "save destination as...". Save the zip-file in the directory where you want to place the model (e.g. D:\Balmorel).

Unzip the files to the same directory using your decompression program.

The model (consisting of a number of text files organised in folders) should now be placed in the directory.

The file structure:

The file structure is described in the report "The Balmorel Model Structure", that may be downloaded from the download papers page.

Running the model:

An introduction is found in the document "Balmorel - Getting Started", which can be downloaded from the download papers page.
